Sydney Sweeney is known for her dedication, and it seems nothing, not even a rocky breakup, can shake her focus. The “Euphoria” star, who famously claims to make 26 hours out of every 24, often works day and night, barely getting four hours of sleep. This intense commitment was on full display while she filmed “The Housemaid.”
Director Paul Feig, 62, saw firsthand how committed Sweeney, 27, was to her craft. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal published on August 20, Feig noted that Sweeney was “completely present emotionally” on set. He said she was “ready for anything” and never brought personal troubles to work, even during a tough time. Feig remembered checking on her, asking if she was okay, and she would simply say, “I’m good, I’m great!” but not in a defensive way. He told the outlet that Sweeney truly “loves to work.”
At the time, Sweeney was quietly navigating the end of her engagement to Jonathan Davino. While she didn’t discuss the details of her professional dynamic with Davino after the split – they had started their production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, five years ago – she chose to keep her private life separate. She told The Wall Street Journal that she keeps “all personal stuff out of this.”
Whispers about Sweeney and Davino, 42, grew louder before Us Weekly confirmed in March that the couple had called off their wedding plans and gone their separate ways. A source told Us at the time that the wedding was supposed to happen that spring. “The wedding isn’t happening,” the source revealed, adding, “Sydney wanted to call off everything and couldn’t handle the stress.” They added that many of her problems stemmed from her extremely busy work schedule.
Sweeney finally spoke about the separation in a May interview with The Times of London. She shared that being single meant “learning a lot about myself and spending more time with my friends.” She added simply, “I love it.” Sweeney and Davino had been together since 2018, keeping their relationship mostly private as her fame grew and her schedule became packed.
As if a breakup wasn’t enough, romance rumors started swirling around Sweeney and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), 35, in May. Photos published by Page Six showed them hugging at a club opening in Las Vegas. However, MGK set the record straight three months later during an appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.” When host Andy Cohen read a viewer’s question asking if there was “any truth to the rumor that you and Sydney Sweeney were more than friends,” MGK shook his head, looked at the camera, and declared, “Kyle P., shut up, dude,” to laughter from the studio audience.
