Karthik Subbaraj’s new film “Retro” is hitting theaters on May 1, 2025. The director recently spilled a bombshell about the movie. Karthik revealed that he didn’t originally write the script for Surya, the film’s star. Instead, he had a different superstar in mind.

According to a report by 123.com, Karthik Subbaraj said he wrote the story for Rajinikanth first. The initial version was more action-packed. After sharing the story with Surya, Karthik toned down the action and focused on romance.

The film is being produced by 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Creations. It will be released in multiple Indian languages. The cast includes Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj. The music is composed by Santosh Narayanan, and Shriya Saran will feature in a special song.
