The Chinese embassy in Washington on Friday accused the US intelligence community of “political manipulation” after the publication of a report accusing Beijing of withholding key information about the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The US intelligence community report shows that the United States is determined to take the wrong path of political manipulation,” the embassy said in a statement.

“The intelligence community’s report is based on a presumption of guilt on China’s part, and only to make China a scapegoat.”

The number of patients hospitalized for Covid-19 continued to increase in French Polynesia, reaching 412 people, including 55 in intensive care, the local health ministry said in Papeete (Saturday in Paris) on Friday.

After using all the beds available in hospitals and clinics, the hospital center was forced on Friday to welcome its first patients in its central nave, a passageway fitted out as a hospitalization zone. The services at this hospital have already all been redesigned to accommodate more patients and beds have even been placed in offices. One hundred and fifty oxygen concentrators arrived by plane in Tahiti.

Forty-four of them were delivered to the Hospital Center. The others will make it possible to limit the saturation of hospitals by keeping certain patients at home. The local government has announced a “day of fasting” in memory of the victims of Covid-19. It will take place on September 5 in the presence of the five religious denominations most represented in Polynesia.
