Portugal’s national basketball team has voiced strong confidence and a determined spirit ahead of their upcoming 2027 World Cup qualifier against basketball powerhouse Greece.
Player Diogo Brito emphasized the squad’s readiness to confront one of the world’s top national teams.
“Against this Greece, which is one of the best national teams not only in Europe but in the world, it has a spectacular tradition in basketball, this group is ready for the challenge,” Brito stated.
He added that the team would not “hide” from the challenge.
“These ‘match-ups’ are things we don’t hide from,” Brito explained. “It’s a matter of respecting them, obviously, but also gaining a bit of their respect.”
The critical second-round qualification match is scheduled for Sunday at 5:00 PM local time in Matosinhos, Portugal.
Portugal began its campaign for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, to be held in Qatar, with a strong performance.
The team secured an 83-62 victory over Montenegro in Podgorica during the first Group B fixture.
The top three teams from each of the eight groups in this initial qualification phase will advance to the second round.
