Digimon Survive: Visual Novel Focus Divides Fans, Low PC Specs for $52

Digimon Survive, the latest installment in the popular Digimon franchise, has arrived on PC, offering players a unique blend of visual novel storytelling and tactical role-playing, heavily prioritizing narrative choices and character development over intricate combat mechanics.

Developed by HYDE, Inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game is now available on Steam. It retails for approximately $52 USD, based on its launch price of R$259.90 in Brazil.

The title immerses players in a narrative where protagonist Takuma Momozuka and his classmates are transported to a perilous parallel world during a school camp. Here, companion Digimon await amidst new dangers.

The gameplay structure leans heavily into visual novel elements, accounting for roughly 70% of the experience. This segment focuses on extensive reading, dialogue choices, and significant story ramifications.

The remaining 30% of gameplay comprises turn-based tactical battles. These combat encounters, while strategic, have been noted by critics as simpler and less profound compared to the game’s visual design.

Players’ moral choices and dialogue decisions directly influence the story’s progression. These choices can alter Digimon evolutions and even lead to the permanent loss of characters, adding emotional weight.

Platform critics have praised the game’s vibrant scenarios and detailed character designs. However, the tactical combat does not consistently reach the same visual and depth standards. This disparity may disappoint fans expecting a full-fledged strategy RPG experience.

For PC users, the game’s system requirements are generally accessible. Minimum specifications include a Windows 10 (64-bit) operating system, an Intel Core i3-6300 or AMD FX-4350 processor, and 8 GB of RAM.

A NVIDIA GT 1030 or AMD Radeon HD 7850 graphics card is also required. Players will need 15 GB of available storage space.

Recommended specifications suggest an Intel Core i7-6700K or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X processor and 16 GB of RAM. A NVIDIA GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card is recommended for optimal performance. Storage remains at 15 GB.
