From young to young and from Asturian to Asturian. In Citroën they continue betting on the promises in the rallies and, after having catapulted Alejandro Cachon tohe World Cup after being the surprise of the 2022 Spanish Championship, now they have chosen his countryman Diego Ruiloba to defend their colors in the national contest.
At 22 years old, Ruiloba has been following in the footsteps of Cachón for years, since it happened to him as the winner of the FAPA Steering Wheel in Asturias, and last year as the winner of the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica. That triumph is the one that has given him the jump to the official Citroën team, with which in 2022 Cachón surprised by winning two tests (Princesa de Asturias and Llanes) and finishing third after Pepe López and Efrén Llarena in the Nacional.
“I am very excited to be the new official Citroën driver”, recognizes the young Asturian. “It is the first time that I will have the opportunity to make the jump to an all-wheel drive car like the C3 Rally2. We are also going to measure rivals who have much more experience than uss, but we will try to adapt step by step. Our objective at the beginning is none other than to ride, cover kilometers and try to improve little by little. As the season progresses, we will try to climb positions. Let’s see if we can already be there for the northern tests fighting for the top positions.
His first participation will be the Sierra Morena Rally, the inaugural round of the Spanish Championship that starts tomorrow in Córdoba, where he will share the cockpit with his co-driver, Ángel Vela.
