Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad is reportedly targeting French national team coach Didier Deschamps, a move that could jeopardize the position of current manager Sérgio Conceição amidst the Saudi club’s mixed performance.
Deschamps, 57, has confirmed receiving approaches from a Middle Eastern country, stating his openness to new opportunities once his current commitments conclude.
“I received some contacts, yes! I will not reveal the name of who contacted me, but I can tell you that I have already informed them about my situation,” Deschamps said. “When I make a decision, I don’t go back! I will be free after the scheduled commitments, and when that happens… I will not rule out any scenario!”
The reported interest from Al Ittihad comes as current coach Sérgio Conceição’s job security depends on results. He began leading the club on October 8 and holds a contract until June 30, 2028.
Al Ittihad, based in Jeddah, is currently in 8th place in the Saudi Pro League standings.
Despite his openness to club coaching, Deschamps has indicated a strong preference against managing another national team.
“You should never say never, but I don’t see myself as a coach of another country,” he explained. “Because of everything the French national team and the Marseillaise [French anthem] represent to me. I can’t imagine myself on the bench listening to another anthem.”
Al Ittihad also remains active in the King’s Cup and the AFC Champions League.
