I told Ramesh Sipppy, the director, to cast him.” And that’s how Amitabh got his breakthrough role in the 1975 film.
Interestingly, the role was initially offered to Shatrughan Sinha, but Dharmendra intervened and suggested Amitabh’s name instead. The rest, as they say, is history. “Sholay” went on to become a cult classic, and Amitabh’s career soared.
