It’s been a week of renovations at Deportivo de la Coruña, with last week’s contract extension for Barcia until 2028 being followed by Diego Gómez’s renewal for two more years, until June 30, 2030. For Gómez, this decision is a dream come true – “it’s a pride to wear the Dépor shirt again, it’s a dream for any child who feels these colors,” he said in a video broadcast by the El Canterano club. “Coming here was the best decision of my life,” he added, clearly enthusiastic about his future with the team.
Gómez returned to Dépor in the winter market to replace Lucas Pérez, after spending the first six months of the competition on loan to Aranteiro in the First Federation. His experience and skills will undoubtedly be an asset to the team, and his commitment to the club is evident in his words.
Barcia’s Renewal and Commitment
Dani Barcia, on the other hand, has also expressed his desire to continue with Deportivo, stating that it was “always” his intention to stay with the club. “I am very happy to renew, I always wanted to be here, help Dépor and get to the first team, which was always my dream,” he said at a press conference. The ease with which the renewal was negotiated is a testament to the mutual interest between the club and the player – “it was quite easy to understand us because I always had the intention of continuing here and the club was also clear,” Barcia explained.
The central defender, who had to deal with a muscle injury that forced him to miss several games, applauded the club’s commitment to players trained in Abegondo. He cited Celta de Claudio Giráldez as an example of a team that has successfully competed in the First Division with a strong foundation of homegrown players.
A Positive Trend
As Barcia noted, “since the summer, the club began to renew the contract of the boys of the house and that is to be appreciated. What we can give in the field is being seen.” This approach has been successful for other teams, such as Celta, which has competed in the First Division with a squad comprised largely of players from its own academy. Barcia is confident that Dépor can follow a similar path, saying “I think that sooner or later we are going to reach First, with this base you can compete perfectly.” With the renewals of Gómez and Barcia, the team is certainly taking steps in the right direction.
