Dembelé scores and Barcelona beat Atlético de Madrid 1-0

Barcelona suffered a lot of damage to establish itself as the sole leader of the Spanish League after beating Atlético Madrid 1-0 at the Estadio Metropolitano on Sunday.

The French winger Ousmane Dembélé celebrated his fifth goal of the course with a shot down, benefiting from a great pass from Gavi, in a foray between the lines of Pedri, to send one of the few Barça options to the net after 22 minutes.

Barca celebrate this victory to reach 41 points, three more than the Real Madrid guard, who was shipwrecked on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat on his visit to Villarreal.

“We knew it was a difficult pitch and that (Real) Madrid had punctured. It has been a disputed game”, said the Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets. “We have suffered, but we took good points”.

Atlético de Madrid saw a four-win streak broken in all competitions to stagnate with 27 points in 5th position, outside the qualifying zone for the next edition of the Champions League.

Dembélé appeared in the definition zone to take advantage of Gavi’s pass, who turned on his axis to remove his mark and give the pass to the Frenchman so that he converted the goal.

The Barça goal came despite not having the stellar Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who at the beginning of the week was confirmed by the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) the three-game La Liga sanction for his expulsion against Osasuna before the World Cup in Qatar .

The Pole played last week against Espanyol after Barca’s legal services appealed to the ordinary courts to obtain a suspension of punishment until the TAD ruled.

As soon as they saw themselves at a disadvantage, the colchoneros launched for the equalizer, but the figure of goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen prevented his frame from falling with good saves, the most spectacular being a shot from Antoine Griezmann in front of the goal during the course of the first time.

In the final seconds of the match, defender Ronald Araújo avoided the tie by deflecting a new shot from Griezmann’s goal under the posts.

Both teams ended up with 10 players after Ferran Torres (Barcelona) and Stefan Savic (Atlético) got into a fight at the start of compensation for which they were sent off.
