The Delhi High Court just dropped a big legal bombshell. Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, is now in the hot seat. They, along with streaming giant Netflix and others, received summons this past Wednesday, October 8.
This isn’t about a new blockbuster. It’s a defamation lawsuit. IRS officer and former Narcotics Control Bureau official Sameer Wankhede filed it. He is not happy with how he is shown in the web series “The Bads of Bollywood.” The court wants Red Chillies, Netflix, X (formerly Twitter), Google, and Meta to answer. They must reply to his claims within seven days.
Wankhede’s petition argues that the series paints anti-drug agencies in a bad light. He believes this portrayal damages public trust in the law. He also claims the show deliberately tried to ruin his reputation. This is especially sensitive. It happened while a case about Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, was still active in court. Interestingly, the petition states that Aryan Khan directed “The Bads of Bollywood.”
What is Wankhede asking for? A hefty 2 crore rupees in damages. But he is not keeping it for himself. He plans to donate the entire sum to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. The court has not made any final decisions yet. No interim orders have been issued.
Beyond the damages, Wankhede is also pushing for something else. He wants specific websites to take down content he finds objectionable. It looks like this legal drama is just getting started. The next court date is already set for October 30. We will be watching to see how this story unfolds.
Delhi High Court issued summons (notice) on the plea of Sameer Wankhede against Red Chillies Entertainment and others. The High Court has asked Red Chillies Entertainment and others to file a reply within 7 days. The court has asked the petitioner to supply a copy of the petition…
