Delhi Capitals announced the new captain of their team today (March 16). The Delhi franchise has chosen David Warner as the captain of their team for IPL 2023. Warner got this responsibility due to Rishabh Pant being left out of IPL 2023. David Warner is one of the most successful players in IPL and has also been a captain in IPL matches before. He will make up for Rishabh Pant’s lack of captaincy, but there will definitely be turmoil in the Delhi camp over how to fill the void Delhi used to get from Rishabh’s explosive batting in the middle order.
Delhi Capitals have yet to announce Rishabh’s replacement. I certainly wouldn’t get any Indian player who can hit like Rishabh. Rishabh has been a match-winning player. Whether he starts, bats in the middle order or plays the role of finisher, as long as he is in the field, there is little chance that Delhi will lose, it is not easy to find a replacement for such a veteran player. This team may choose to play-11 from their existing roster without a replacement player.
Rishabh Pant usually bats for Delhi between the third and fifth orders. The kind of batting he used to hit in this middle order, only South African batsman Riley Rossouw and English batsman Phil Salt can do that kind of batting from the Delhi team. But these two players are foreigners, so if one of these two plays, then Delhi will have to put another foreign player on the bench, which will not be easy. Last season, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell and Anrich Norkhia were Delhi’s top four foreign players, who were part of the game-11 on a rolling basis.
That is, instead of Rishabh Pant, only one Indian player will have to take this responsibility. In such a situation, the Delhi franchise will have options like Sarfaraz Khan, Manish Pandey and Yash Dhull. These three players are expert hitters, but they cannot hit in the same way as Rishabh Pant. In such a situation, Delhi will definitely miss Rishabh Pant as a batsman.
