Delhi Capitals’ bowling coach, Munaf Patel, has been fined 25% of his match fee after a heated exchange with the fourth umpire during their match against Rajasthan Royals.
The incident occurred when Rajasthan Royals were chasing a target of 189 runs. Patel was seen arguing with the umpire near the dugout, and the video of the exchange went viral on social media.
What happened during the match?
According to reports, Patel was tying his shoelaces when he got into a heated discussion with the fourth umpire. The umpire had apparently denied Patel’s request to send a player onto the field to convey a message. The exchange between Patel and the umpire was caught on camera and widely shared on social media.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) issued a statement confirming that Patel had pleaded guilty to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s regulations, which deals with “unfair play or misconduct contrary to the spirit of the game.”
Previous fines for Delhi Capitals
This is not the first time Delhi Capitals have been fined this season. Captain Axar Patel was previously fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over rate during their match against Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians are the only team to have beaten Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 so far. Despite this, Delhi Capitals remain top of the points table with five wins from six matches.
