Deepti Sharma Named UP Warriors Captain for WPL 2025 Season Suddenly

The Women’s Premier League 2025 is set to commence on February 14 and will run until March 15. In a recent development, India’s star player Deepti Sharma has been announced as the captain of UP Warriors, taking over from regular captain Alyssa Healy, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a right leg injury.

Deepti Sharma, who has been an integral part of UP Warriors since 2023, is one of the team’s most successful players. She is the second-highest wicket-taking bowler for UP in the WPL, with 19 wickets in 17 matches. Additionally, she is the third-highest run-scorer for the team, having scored 385 runs in 16 innings for UP in the WPL. This is not Deepti’s first experience with captaincy, as she has previously led the Bengal team at the domestic level.

UP Warriors have also made another change to their team, replacing Elise Healy with West Indies all-rounder Chedean Nation, although another player, Chinel Henry was mentioned in some press as a potential replacement for Elise Healy from the West Indies.

Impact on the Team

The injury to Alyssa Healy and the subsequent captaincy change may have a significant impact on the team’s performance in the upcoming tournament. However, with Deepti Sharma’s experience and skills, UP Warriors are likely to remain a strong contender in the WPL 2025. The team’s ability to adapt to these changes will be crucial in determining their success in the tournament.
