Deepika Padukone tells Meghan Markle about mental health

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone speaks candidly about mental health again. This time in an interview with Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.

Deepika, who wants to talk about the topic of ‘mental health’, says that she was diagnosed with depression in 2014.

On Megan’s Archetypes podcast, Deepika says, “I woke up, I fell. My blood pressure dropped. And before she knew it, my life felt meaningless. I didn’t want to live anymore. He didn’t want to get out of bed. And I struggled with this for many, many months.”

“I started crying out of nowhere sometimes. I wasn’t there either. For example, if I was talking to someone or attending an event, I was physically there but my mind was somewhere else.”

She goes on to say that after a visit, her parents were about to leave. She completely broke down and started crying. “And my mother said, what’s up? Is it your relationship? Did someone say something to you? I said I didn’t know. That I’ve felt this way for months. I kept crying. I do not know why. It is a feeling of hopelessness. You just feel hopeless. You feel there is no point in living.”

Fortunately, Deepika has received the necessary help to recover. And she hopes that by talking about it, other people will recognize the symptoms and seek help too.
