The third edition of the women’s futsal Eurocup will be played next March and UEFA has already announced the venue. After two titles played in Gondomar, Portugal, this time it will be the Hungarian city of Debrecen that will host the continental tournament in which Spain will defend the European title. What’s more, Claudia Pons’s are so far the only team that has won this title after lifting the two previous editions. It is the rival to beat, although this time it will go without its captain: Anita Luján.
Portugal, Ukraine and hosts Hungary will be the contenders to topple the queens of continental futsal. Those of Claudia Pons will face the major challenge of continuing to maintain their hegemony. The championship will be held between March 16 and 19 at the Fönix Arena, which already hosted the 2010 European men’s tournament in which Spain was proclaimed champion. La Roja wants to repeat success on the same stage.
In fact, the final four will be repeated since they are the same four teams that played the championship in Gondomar last July. Spain then beat Ukraine in the semifinal with a resounding 9-0 and took the title in the grand final against Portugal on penalties after a three-goal tie during the duel. La Roja comes after another immaculate qualifying phase after beating Belgium (14-0), Sweden (6-1) and Finland (7-2).
