Deb Mukherjee, Ayan Mukerji’s Father, Passes Away Aged 83

The film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Deb Mukherjee, who passed away on Friday at the age of 83. According to his spokesperson, Mukherjee succumbed to age-related illnesses in the morning. As a member of the renowned Mukherjee-Samarth family, Deb was the father of filmmaker Ayan Mukherjee and the father-in-law of Ashutosh Gowarikar. His funeral is scheduled to take place on March 14th at 4 pm at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu. It’s indeed a sad coincidence that this tragic news arrived on the day of Holi, a festival typically associated with joy and celebration.

Insiders reveal that several members of the Mukherjee family, including Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukherjee, Tanuja, Tanishaa, and Aditya Chopra, are expected to attend the funeral. Additionally, friends of Ayan Mukherjee, such as Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, Sidharth Malhotra, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh, may also be in attendance to pay their respects.

Born in 1941 in Kanpur, Deb Mukherjee hailed from a distinguished film family. His mother, Satidevi, was the sister of the legendary Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. His brothers, Joy Mukherjee and Shomu Mukherjee, were also notable figures in the film industry, with Shomu marrying the talented actress Tanuja. Deb’s nieces, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, have also made a name for themselves in the film world. Deb was married twice and had a daughter, Sunita, from his first marriage, who is married to Ashutosh Gowarikar. His son, Ayan, is from his second marriage.

Later in his career, he acted in films like “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar” and “King Uncle”, with his last film being “Kaminey”.
