Death sentence confirmed for Dylan Roof, author of the Charleston massacre

The Federal Court of Appeal has ruled. Dylann Roof, author of the racist and murderous attack on Charleston, will be condemned to death.

Now 27, he killed 9 people when he broke into a Methodist church populated overwhelmingly with black worshipers in 2015. “No clinical summary or in-depth legal analysis can fully account for the atrocity of the Roof act. His crimes place him under the most severe sentence that a just society can render, ”declared the judges of the Richmond court.

Following his trial in 2017, he was sentenced to death. During the investigation, he never expressed the slightest regret for his actions, nor offered an apology.

But despite this confirmation by the court, his execution may not take place for a long time, if not. Indeed, Dylan Roof had been sentenced to a federal death sentence. However, Joe Biden recently imposed a moratorium on executions at the national level. Only States which decide to do so can therefore apply it in cases which remain within their jurisdiction.
