Death of Jean-Paul Belmondo: France pays tribute to him
Jean-Paul Belmondo died on Monday September 6. In Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) or in Paris, the French mourn an icon of French cinema. A national tribute will take place on Thursday at Les Invalides.
French cinema has lost one of its most emblematic figures. Monday, September 6, Jean-Paul Belmondo died at the age of 88. Tuesday morning, in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), a huge portrait of the actor was displayed in a city street. In Paris, passers-by placed flowers in front of his home. At the Café de l’Alma, where he used to be, the boss and customers already miss the one who was so accessible.
The government will organize a national tribute ceremony in honor of the star on Thursday at the Invalides. “It is an honor worthy of the mark left by Jean-Paul Belmondo in French cinema, it is in any case the wish of the Élysée in consultation with the family”, reports the journalist of France Télévisions Christophe Gascard, in duplex from the Esplanade des Invalides in Paris. In 2019, the actor had already been decorated by Emmanuel Macron who had made him a grand officer of the Legion of Honor.
