Dean Elgar's Test career was brilliant. He has scored 5347 runs in 86 Test matches. During this period he composed 14 centuries and 23 half centuries. His best Test score was 199 runs. Elgar played the last match of his Test career against India in Cape Town. He will now play for Essex. Essex wrote on Twitter: “Essex are delighted to announce that Dean Elgar has signed a three year contract.”

It is noteworthy that Dean Elgar has performed strongly in first-class matches. Apart from batting, he has also tried his hand at bowling. Elgar has scored 16676 runs in 245 games. During this period he composed 48 centuries and 68 half-centuries. During this period, Elgar's best score was 268 runs. He has taken 56 wickets in the first class. His best performance in a match was taking 5 wickets for 141 runs. Elgar has scored 6164 runs in 178 List A matches. In addition, 57 wickets were taken.
