A violent incident occurred in Peach on Friday night, resulting in the death of a 46-year-old woman and the injury of a 16-year-old teenager. The attack, which took place after 9 p.m., involved multiple gunshots, with 12 bullet casings found at the scene by local police.
Emergency Response and Treatment
Following the emergency call, police arrived at the scene and found the injured teenager, who was taken to the local hospital for treatment. The teenager was later transferred to a hospital in Maciel, Montevideo, for further care. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries while being treated at the Durazno hospital.
Victim’s Background and Investigation
According to Durazno Deputy Police Chief Andrea Corujo, the deceased woman had a history of involvement in illicit activities, with three prior records for the sale and supply of drugs, the most recent being in June 2023. She was also under investigation for her alleged participation in a criminal group involved in drug sales in the department.
The local police are currently investigating the shooting as a possible confrontation between rival criminal groups.
Separate Incident at Durazno Hospital
In a separate incident, a man arrived at the Durazno hospital on a motorcycle and crashed into the emergency door. He was found to have sustained gunshot wounds in multiple parts of his body and received urgent treatment. This incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday. The man also has a prior criminal record.
