De Los Santos and Capellán lead Mauricio Báez to first position

Club Mauricio Báez defeated Club San Lázaro 77-68 (27-15/16-21/17-13/17-19) to lead the standings of the top women’s basketball tournament in the National District alone.

Both teams arrived tied at the top of the tournament dedicated to coach Fernando Teruel, so with the victory, Mauricio takes a match from San Lázaro (3-2), with three games remaining in the regular series. The match was played at Club San Lázaro.

Hilary de los Santos scored 22 points and 15 rebounds, for another double-double and Cesarina Capellán contributed another 22, nine rebounds and six assists to lead Mauricio, who thus won the particular series against San Lázaro in this regular round. Genesis Evangelista contributed four points, but gave up 11 assists.

Cheisi Hernández had a great game with 34 points, but not enough to at least keep the score closed against Mauricio who managed to take an advantage of 16 points (40-24). Yennifer Peña contributed 16 and eight rebounds.

Eagles over San Carlos

Fátima Marte and Ángela Jiménez combined for 46 points to lead the Águilas de Guachupita to an 85-81 victory over Club San Carlos, who once again lost a close match.

The victory leaves the Eagles (2-3) in third place in the standings, a position they share with San Carlos (2-3), who lose for the second consecutive game. They last won on August 5. It was the second game of the double day at Club San Lázaro.

Marte (national reinforcement) scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Jiménez 20 and 10 rebounds, for an Águilas that also had 12 points and 12 rebounds from Sugeiry (Sugey) Monsac.
