Spanish Cross-Country Mountain Bike Champion Crowned
David Valero, a rider from the BH Coloma Team, has won his ninth title as Spanish cross-country mountain bike champion (XCO) in El Almendro, Huelva. This achievement makes him the Spanish cyclist with the most national gold medals, surpassing José Antonio Hermida.
Despite experiencing a complicated championship, Valero made a meritorious comeback after suffering a puncture on the first lap. He eventually took the lead and won the race with a time of 1.20:27.
Orbea rider David Campos was the star of the race initially, making a lightning start and leaving all his rivals behind. However, Valero’s Olympic medallist experience allowed him to catch up with Campos and eventually overtake him. Campos settled for the silver medal, 44 seconds behind the winner.
Cullell, who will represent Spain at the Olympic Games alongside Valero, managed to recover and secure the bronze medal, three minutes behind the winner.
