Dava Torres, the captain of Deportivo Liceo, expressed his disappointment with journalist Joan Ferran after his team’s 3-1 loss to FC Barcelona in the Ok League. Torres was unhappy with the way he was treated by the journalist, feeling that he was not given the same respect as other players.
The Incident
The incident occurred when Torres arrived for an interview with Ferran, but was asked to wait while Ferran interviewed Pablo Álvarez instead. Torres felt that this was unfair and that he was being treated differently because he was not a player from FC Barcelona. As he said, “Is Sport3 everyone’s, right? Is that of the OK League, right? It is not that of Barcelona, it is that of all we treat them all the same.”
Torres recriminated Ferran, stating that he had arrived first for the interview, but was still asked to wait. He felt that this showed a lack of respect for him and his team. “If I get here first, you maintain the same respect as Pablo Álvarez. I’m not less than Pablo Álvarez. That’s ugly. It’s ugly … I was here and you told me to come. But Pablo Álvarez appeared and you sent me to wait to interview him first,” Torres said.
Torres’ Concerns
Torres’ main concern was that he was not being treated the same as other players. He wanted to be respected and interviewed in the same way as anyone else. As he emphasized, “I just want you to treat me the same as others … and you just demonstrate that it is not so.” Torres also questioned whether the media outlet, Sport3, was biased towards FC Barcelona, asking “Is Sport3 that of the OK League or that of the Catalans?”
Despite the incident, Torres eventually granted the interview. When asked about the game, he stated that “the feeling is that we have been able to mark.” Torres’ comments highlighted the tension and frustration that can arise in the heat of competition, and the importance of respecting all players and teams equally.
