Dário Essugo Injury Halts Chelsea Premier League Debut Until 2026

Dário Essugo’s promising start at Chelsea just hit a major snag. The young midfielder’s recent injury, picked up while playing for Portugal’s U-21 National Team, has his new club quite concerned. Word from ‘The Athletic’ suggests Essugo will be out for at least 12 weeks. That means fans shouldn’t expect him back on the field until 2026. It’s a real blow for the 20-year-old.

This tough injury actually struck early. Essugo was hurt during the very first practice session of the U-21 national team’s most recent camp. The Chelsea medical team quickly stepped in, advising surgery. So, this past Tuesday, Essugo had an operation on his right thigh.

Essugo only made the move to Chelsea at the start of June. The 20-year-old Portuguese midfielder has played in three Club World Cup matches for the club. However, he is still waiting to make his debut in the Premier League. This injury certainly puts his first appearance in England’s top flight on hold for a while longer.
