Details of the Incident
A prisoner, known as Anthony Martín Rodríguez Silveira or “El Pato Feo,” was involved in a serious incident at Freedom Penal. The incident occurred on Thursday at 3:50 p.m. during the distribution of powdered milk in cell number 2.
Circumstances Leading to the Incident
Rodríguez Silveira, who has been in prison since 2017 for planning the assault on a Banco República de Willow branch, requested to leave his cell to remove a fan. This request led to the opening of the cell, which the prisoner took advantage of to attempt an escape.
Escape Attempt and Hostage Situation
During the escape attempt, Rodríguez Silveira closed the side access, leaving a police officer locked up. He then proceeded to the medical center, where he threatened the staff with a gray holster that appeared to contain a weapon. The prisoner broke the acrylic on the door of the medical center and took a police officer hostage.
Resolution of the Incident
After several attempts at dialogue, the prisoner was eventually subdued, disarmed, and relocated to his cell. The National Rehabilitation Institute (INR) reported that the situation was brought under control.
