Canada’s Danielle McGahey will become the first transgender cricketer to play international cricket when she takes part in the 2024 World Cup T20 qualifiers against Bangladesh. The qualifiers for the T20 World Cup 2024 will be played from September 4th to 11th in Los Angeles.
29-year-old Danielle McGahee has been called up to the Canada women’s team for next month’s qualifiers. She has met the ICC’s eligibility criteria for male-to-female transgender gamers.
Canada meets Argentina, Brazil and the United States in Americas qualifiers for a spot in global qualifiers. McGahey told BBC Sport: “I’m proud. Representing my community is a dream come true for me.”
Please let us know that Daniel McGahey passed from male to female in November 2020. As of May 2021, he began medical transformation. She came to Canada from Australia in February 2020. The cricketer eligibility rules issued by the ICC in 2018 clarified that if trans women are required to play international cricket, they must maintain testosterone levels in their blood below 5 nanomoles per liter for at least 12 months.
The ICC said in a statement: “We can confirm that Daniel has met the ICC’s eligibility requirements and is eligible to play women’s international cricket.”
McGahee said: “I’ve had blood tests every month for the last two years to get my testosterone levels. While playing cricket I have to travel so much that it was a bit difficult. I’m proud, not only of myself, but of the transgender community I represent.
