Daniela Álvarez and Sofía González, U21 world silver

The Spanish Daniela Álvarez and Sofía González became sub-21 world beach volleyball runners-up this Sunday, after losing in the final to the Ukrainians Anhelina Khmil and Tetiana Lazarenko by 1-2. In the center court of the Thai beach of Bangtao, Álvarez and González came to caress the title when in the playoff set (15-14), they had a match ball.

It was a very balanced final. In the first round there were draws until, after a draw (11-11), the Ukrainians, third in the world under-19, took command and sentenced the set by 21-17.

In the second, it was the Asturian Álvarez and the Malaga González who led the baton from the first moment, with advantages that reached 5 goals (11-5, 14-9). The Spanish couple even solved a critical moment (19-18) but knew how to keep calm, score the set (21-18) and force a tiebreaker. During the final set, the tension remained (8-8, 11-11, 14-14) until in the final moments their opponents sealed the victory (15-17).
