Daniel Martínez: “The Tour de France is my main objective”

Daniel Felipe Martínez once again showed that he is one of the best Colombian cyclists today. The Team Ineos Grenadiers rider won the 2023 Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta title after finishing in fourth place in the last stage (individual time trial), which allowed him to climb six places in the general classification.

“It’s a surprise for me to win the Tour of the Algarve, many people thought before starting the stage that Filippo Ganna was the favorite for the general classification. I came to this race without being 100%, but every day I felt better and I had very good legs in the time trial”, stated the cyclist after the title.

The runner, who among his record has the Critérium del Dauphiné 2020 and the Tour of the Basque Country 2022 has as The main objective of the season is to compete in the Tour de France, in which he will race for the fourth time and in which he has already achieved a stage victory on the ascent to Puy Mary. However, before the big tour he will have other competitions in which he hopes to stand out again.

“We are going to go step by step. For the moment I will savor this great victory, then I’m going to prepare for the Tour de France, which is my main objective for the season, but before the Tour, there will be important races like Paris-Nice, the Tour of the Basque Country and the Ardennes Classics”, added the runner.

This was the second competition for Daniel Felipe Martínez in 2023 after starting his season with the Vuelta a San Juan in Argentina. In this way, the Colombian cyclist will return to competition on March 5 when Paris – Nice beginsin which last year he achieved third place.
