Damage to infrastructure in the livestock sector is around RD$200 million

The president of the Association of Beef Cattle Producers (Asocarne), Enrique de Castro, reported this Monday that the damage to infrastructure in the livestock sector is around RD$200 million, after the passage of Hurricane Fiona through the national territory.

De Castro toldDaily Listinthat this cyclone mainly affected the fences, corrals, the drains, and aquifers, which are on the farms, houses of ranchers and employees, among others.

When talking about the animal loss, he commented that it was insignificant compared to the damage to the structural support for the development of this activity.

However, he indicated that all cattle at a general level were affected by this cyclone such as the dairy and beef cattlejust like him Sheep-coprinedespite the fact that the latter has a lower proportion compared to the rest.

“The losses in this sector are concentrated in the provinces La Altagracia, El Seibo and Hato Mayor which is where a good part of the meat industry in the Dominican Republic is located,” commented Enrique de Castro.

rated as "very welcome"the help received from the Government, explaining that it has been useful for cleaning the roads that Fiona destroyed in her path.

Also, he said that there is talk of zero-rate loans for that sector via the Agricultural Bank (Bagricola).

De Castro said that this productive area has about 12,000 small and medium producers, who in turn also generate jobs for other citizens of these demarcations.
