Dakota Johnson remains unwavering in her embrace of the "naked dress" trend. The actress has no immediate plans to retire the revealing fashion style.
Johnson, 36, recently shared her thoughts on the translucent fashion trend with Vogue Germany. Her comments were part of a new cover story published on Tuesday, October 21.
When asked if she ever feels a skin-baring look is "too sexy," Johnson responded directly, stating, "I really don’t care."
She elaborated that she has worn some of the most beautiful dresses, feeling beautiful in them. She noted that not all "naked dresses" suit her, but she will confidently wear ones she loves. "If I find a pretty dress that I feel comfortable in, of course I want to wear it! And it’s fun to wear a sexy dress," Johnson commented.
Her comfort with her body image stems from her upbringing. Johnson shared that her mother, actress Melanie Griffith, was "very open about bodies." This fostered a strong sense of security in Johnson as she grew up.
Griffith taught them "to take care of our bodies and to love them, and that our bodies are beautiful," Johnson explained. She believes this message is crucial for young girls, who are constantly told "we’re not good enough."
Johnson added that if a child’s most admired woman doesn’t instill feelings of being perfect, intelligent, special, strong, and brave, it can be deeply damaging. She emphasized the difficulty of relearning self-love later in life, calling her mother’s lessons "an enormous gift."

Johnson has consistently showcased this bold style philosophy at high-profile events. In February 2024, she made headlines in a custom Gucci gown at the Los Angeles premiere of Madame Web.
The crystal-embellished design featured a translucent silhouette, a deep neckline, and delicate straps. Johnson wore a flesh-colored bodysuit underneath, complementing the look with a sparkling choker.
Her makeup for the event included smoky eyeshadow and pink lips, while her hair was styled sleek and straight with a middle part.
In June 2025, Johnson wore another transparent ensemble while walking in New York. This was shortly after news broke of her split from Chris Martin.
Her outfit featured a fully sheer black tulle dress over a red strapless, high-cut bodysuit. She accessorized with a brown Gucci leather bag and pointed heels. Johnson and Martin, 48, had dated for eight years and were engaged before their separation, according to a source in March.
Just one month prior, Johnson also donned a revealing look at the Kering Caring for Women dinner during New York Fashion Week. She showcased a translucent bodice with intricate black lace detailing.
Underneath, she wore a black strapless bra and a matching thong. Johnson completed her look with minimal jewelry, a simple updo, and subtle eye makeup with glossy lips.
