Kevin Benavides, a KTM rider, began the Dakar 2025 at 70% of his physical capabilities. Despite this limitation, he managed to reach the halfway point of the competition. However, he has now announced his retirement from the event.
The first week of the rally proved to be extremely challenging for Benavides, who described it as a daily struggle. He expressed pride in completing the first week, which lasted over 30 hours, considering it a significant achievement.
Physical Limitations and Injury Concerns
Benavides arrived at the Dakar rally with a partially recovered injury to his left arm, which included nerve damage. He found it frustrating that his mind was willing to perform at a high level, but his body was not capable of maintaining the required rhythm.
Risk of Further Injury
Benavides decided to retire from the rally due to the risk of further injury being too great. He expressed gratitude to his team and fans for their support and hopes to compete again soon.
Although Benavides has withdrawn from the competition, he will continue to support his teammates, including Daniel Sanders, Luciano Benavides, and Edgar Canet, during the remainder of the rally.
