Daboo Malik’s Pain: Amaal Malik Lost in Armaan’s Success, Father’s Regret

Amaal Malik recently made waves by talking about his strained relationship with his family. The music world was shocked. Now, his father, Daboo Malik, has finally shared his thoughts on the whole situation. It’s a raw, honest look at family ties under the spotlight.

Music composer Daboo Malik spoke to Amar Ujala Digital about his son’s statements. Months ago, Amaal Malik posted about family distance on social media. He also shared his pain in an interview. These were not just a few words. They were years of hidden hurt finally bursting out.

A Father’s Heartbreak

Daboo Malik recalled the moment he heard Amaal’s words. He said it felt like his soul was ripped out. He was stunned. He had no idea Amaal was so broken. Some people had told him Amaal felt his work wasn’t noticed. But Daboo admitted he never took that seriously enough. A composer’s pain, he noted, is that they create the most but often get left behind. Daboo lamented that as a father, he could not understand Amaal’s deep pain. This failure, he said, broke them apart.

Daboo felt shaken to his core. He spent nights without sleep. He has always seen truth in Amaal’s eyes. His son doesn’t pretend. When Amaal told the world he was separating from his family, it wasn’t just words. It was a cry. A cry that was hidden from Daboo but was clear to the whole world. In that moment, Daboo felt he had failed as a father. If his son had to share his pain with social media, not with him, Daboo felt like the biggest loser.

Daboo was asked if Amaal got lost in the success of his other son, Armaan. “Yes, and this is the biggest truth that hurts me every day,” he answered. “We dreamed for Armaan, worked hard, boosted his shine. In doing so, we forgot we had another son who was making his own journey just as deeply.” Daboo added that Amaal slowly became alone, and they didn’t even notice. He never spoke up or complained. He just kept working and smiling. But inside, he was breaking. When Armaan was surrounded by light, Amaal was searching for his identity in the dark. Daboo called this their biggest mistake: “We saw him, but we didn’t understand him.”

After that painful moment, Daboo took a drastic step. He left everything. For 15 days, he was just with Amaal. He gave no excuses or justifications. He just listened to every word, every pain. Daboo said he was shattered inside but pulled himself together so Amaal wouldn’t break further.

They are trying to mend their relationship. Daboo believes those 15 days, when he simply sat with Amaal, were the start of putting their visual connection into words. Daboo said nothing. He just listened. After listening, he simply told Amaal, “I am here, son, completely this time.”

Daboo was also asked about his relationship with his elder brother, Anu Malik. He affirmed that their bond never soured. Anu, he said, is more than just an older brother; he was a partner in Daboo’s struggles. Daboo remembers a time when they would share a single piece of bread. He admitted there might have been small stings of pain, but they vanished without a word. Looking back, Daboo feels it was all a blur. He also called Anu to explain the whole situation. Anu asked him, “Did I take your rights? Did I plot to hold you back?” Daboo noted that Anu’s words weren’t a defense but pain that had been silent for years and now surfaced as a question.

The conversation then turned to Amaal’s claim that his father’s career ended because of Anu Malik. Daboo found this very hard to hear. He doesn’t know why Amaal felt that way. Daboo admitted he was broken at that time. His career had many ups and downs, and some choices perhaps cost him dearly. But he never blamed anyone. If Amaal saw him struggling during that period and believed Anu was responsible, Daboo explained, it was Amaal’s view. Daboo acknowledged Amaal is his son, understanding his pain in his own way. But the truth, Daboo stated, is that he never considered Anu his enemy. If Amaal believed his uncle caused his father’s downfall, Daboo’s only sadness was that Amaal carried that burden in his heart for so many years.

Amaal also used strong words regarding Anu Malik and the MeToo movement. Daboo addressed this carefully. “Look, Amaal is young,” he said. “He speaks from his emotions. But MeToo is not just a personal statement. It’s about women’s dignity and justice.” Daboo stressed that when discussing such issues, words must be chosen with great responsibility. If there are accusations, there are courts, laws, and investigation processes. Daboo stated he never believes it’s right to comment publicly on such matters. A half-truth, he warned, can sometimes cause more damage than a full lie. Amaal’s words might have come from his own experiences and anger. However, Daboo wants him to understand that his words carry weight.

Reflecting on everything, Daboo was asked if he feels more pain or regret. “I’m not hurt, I’m ashamed,” he admitted. He explained that Amaal’s every word shows that Daboo failed to understand his son’s pain. “He’s speaking, and I’m listening,” Daboo said. His role now is not as a singer, father, or brother. It’s simply as a human trying to hold his son’s pain. Daboo doesn’t want to silence Amaal. He wants to truly feel Amaal’s truth. This way, next time, Amaal can speak to him directly, not to the whole world.
