Cybercriminals are using a Pokémon NFT game to install malware

If you just found one New Pokémon Trading Card Game that promises to give you NFTs, think twice before clicking on it as it may contain malicious software.

Currently, cybercriminals they are using a legit looking pokemon game for Deploy NetSupport Remote Access Tool and Gain Control of Users’ Computers.

This scam game is being marketed as a new NFT card game where users can play with Pokémon cards and profit from their NFT investments.

When users click the button “Play on PC” from the game’s website, an executable file is downloaded to your device. Although the file looks like a game installer, in fact, it contains the NetSupport tool.

After executing the file, it creates a folder in the path %APPDATA% and copies hidden files related to NetSupport, making it difficult for users to remove the malware. The file also creates an entry in the startup folder so that the malware can run after each startup.

Although NetSupport is a legitimate program used to provide system administrators with remote access to users’ computers, in this case it is used by cybercriminals to steal data and install even more malware.

Given the popularity of the Pokémon game and interest in NFT cards, it is highly plausible that people would fall for this threat. To protect yourself from these types of scams, never download or install software from sites you don’t fully trust.
