Package volume triples on Cyber Monday

While the growth of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is slowing, once again the sale days have brought the most traffic for package drivers this year. Based on data from more than 23,000 online stores, Sendcloud claims that compared to an average day in 2022, During Black Friday, 187% more parcel shipments were made in Spain. However, the The busiest day of the year is still Cyber Monday. Mondays are precisely the busiest days, since orders received during the weekend are sent on Mondays and are usually delivered on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

“This year we have had to wait to see how Black Friday and Cyber Monday pan out. Consumers have not only been affected by price inflation, but physical stores have reopened without restrictions for the first time in three years. Although e-commerce is not growing as fast as last year, based on these figures we can conclude that online shopping is here to stay.” He says Rob van den Heuvel, CEO and co-founder of Sendcloud.

This trend can be observed in other European countries. In Italy, for example, there has been a growth of 288% during Black Friday, followed by Germany, Holland and France which have increased by 221%, 225% and 317% respectively. Nevertheless, Spain is the country that has increased the most during Cyber Monday, with an amazing 378% more shipments than an average day.

Rob van den Heuvel adds that, “However, the rush for parcel drivers is not over yet, as another spike in parcel numbers is traditionally expected during the week leading up to Christmas. Therefore, you have to be prepared for longer delivery times and keep in mind that orders must be placed on time; in this way, we can guarantee that the deliveries during the festive period are a success”.

As a consequence of the opening of physical stores and price inflation, ecommerce companies are noticing a decline in online purchases, but despite this, times of the year such as “Black Week” or Christmas continue to generate peaks significant sales.
