Customs seizes cargo of firearms in East Haina port

Officials from the Intelligence Department of the General Customs Directorate (DGA) confiscated a shipment of firearms of different calibers, including pistols, ammunition and chargers.

This seizure was made in coordination with the Public Ministry and the General Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) at the Haina Oriental dock, according to a statement from the institution.

Through this inspection, a total of 33 firearms, 350 units of ammunition and 56 units of chargers were detected, hidden in two boxes saying “contain removable tables,” the note details.

According to the intelligence report the weapons they were declared as “packages with assorted goods for the home.”

The discovery was made in the port of Haina Oriental in a container that arrived in the country on December 15 from Miami, United States.

According to the Intelligence Department report, 250 cartridges for 9-millimeter pistols, 100 cartridges for 12-millimeter shotguns, 35 magazine for pistols and 21 magazine for rifles were also found in the inspection.

Customs informed that the container was detained and the investigations of the case are being deepened in order to establish the responsibilities of the place.
