Customs joins aid days for those affected by the hurricane

The Vice President of the Republica, Rachel Pena participated in the operation led by the Director General of CustomsEduardo Sanz Lovatontogether with the mayor of this municipality, Rafael Baron Duluc, in the delivery of construction materials, clothing and food, to the families most affected by the passage of Hurricane Fiona.

The senior official, accompanied by his entire work team, went early yesterday to the Comprehensive Development Center of the Sajour Lotification community (Sajour), a place used as a distribution center for aid, and from there he toured the popular sectors of this population.

“We are not going to leave Higüey alone, until the Higüey authorities themselves say that everything is back to normal,” The official said during the work of distributing the aid, while highlighting: “The aid was precise instructions from President Luis Abinader Corona.”

Mixed teams made up of personnel from the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), the Higüey Mayor’s Office, the Presidency’s Social Plan, members of the National Army and the Armed Forces, they distributed food rations, cement covers, wood, disposable diapers and items for personal hygiene for children and adults, with information collected by neighborhood associations, community leaders and churches.

The governor of the province, Martina Pepén, the deputies of La Altagracia, Francisco Antonio Solimán Rijo (Tireo) and Francisco Villegas, both from the Alliance for Democracy party (APD), also participated in the event.

“Hurricane Fiona affected us as Dominicans and as Dominicans the Government is responding,” added Sanz Lovatón.

The head of the DGA valued the contribution provided by the private sector, among which he highlighted Grupo Inicia, Acero Estrella, Distribuidora Corripio, Grupo Punta Cana and attributed the day to a public-private effort.

Mayor Cholitín received the Customs team that attended the area to collaborate, while thanking the central government for the effort it has made and for having concentrated body and soul on restoring Higüey.
