Cuba eliminates the mandatory quarantine for tourists from November 7

Travelers arriving in Cuba from November 7 will no longer have to undergo a mandatory quarantine, Tourism Minister Juan Carlos García reported on Tuesday.

García offered a press conference in Havana on Tuesday on the preparation of the tourism sector for the official reopening of the country’s borders, which will take place on November 15.

The minister also indicated that from day 7 the requirement to present a negative PCR is eliminated for those arriving at any of the island’s airports, although they must prove that they have been immunized with any of the vaccines that are manufactured in the world.

He added that children under 12 years of age will not have to present any PCR or vaccination scheme upon arrival in the country, but he added that he will maintain epidemiological surveillance, as well as the mandatory use of the mask in air terminals and in the rest of the country. .

In the case of Cuban residents, they must present themselves at their nearest health center within 48 hours of their arrival and on the seventh day they will perform an antigen test, the owner reported.

García commented that the reopening "controlled" of tourist services responds to the advance of mass vaccination against covid-19 that by November should reach more than 90% of the population, according to official estimates.

The Caribbean country suspended commercial and charter flights in April 2020 to stop the expansion of the coronavirus and in October of that year it reopened the airports, but with a minimal reduction in flights from the United States, Mexico, Panama, Bahamas, Haiti, Republic Dominican and Colombia. Before the pandemic, tourism represented for Cuba the second official source of foreign currency income – only behind the sale of professional services abroad – and contributed around 10% of the Gross Domestic Product.
