Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl against Chennai Super Kings. CSK captain MS Dhoni confirmed that Rahul Tripathi was replaced by 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre.
Ayush Mhatre is a right-handed batter who can also bowl off-spin when needed. CSK bought him for 30 lakh rupees at the mega auction.
A New Face in the Team
Ayush Mhatre is not the only young player to get an IPL chance recently.
A day before, Rajasthan Royals gave 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryawanshi a debut.
Rahul Tripathi had a tough time in the current season, scoring just 55 runs in 5 matches.
CSK usually sticks to senior players, but this season they’ve been breaking that mold.
Chennai Super Kings’ Playing XI
The CSK lineup included Sheik Rashid, Rachin Ravindra, Ayush Mhatre, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Vijay Shankar,
Jamie Overton, MS Dhoni (captain),
Nour Ahmad,
Khaleel Ahmad,
Matheesha Pathirana.
