Khali Ahmed’s 19th over against RCB will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. He conceded 33 runs, including four sixes and two fours, as Romario Shepherd ran riot.
Shepherd’s onslaught began with three consecutive sixes and a four off the first four deliveries. Ahmed then bowled a no-ball, off which Shepherd hit another six. The over ended with a four, taking the total to 33 runs.
This was the third-most expensive over in IPL history and the most costly for CSK. Lungi Ngidi held the previous record for CSK, conceding 30 runs in an over against KKR in 2020. Sam Curran also gave away 30 runs in an over against KKR in 2021.
RCB’s Big Score
Ahmed’s expensive over helped RCB post a massive 213 runs against CSK. Parvinder Avana is the only other player to have conceded 33 runs in an IPL over. P Parameswaran holds the record for the most expensive over, giving away 37 runs against RCB while playing for Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
Shepherd’s destructive batting was the key to RCB’s big score. His sixes and fours off Ahmed’s over showcased his aggressive batting style. RCB’s total of 213 runs put CSK under pressure, making it a challenging task for them to chase down the target.
