The war in Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion is still raging. Governments worldwide are coming to the aid of the country and the crypto community is also contributing. The importance of the crypto donations to the country was highlighted yesterday by the Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, Alex Bornykov.

‘Crypto as bitcoin have become essential tool’

Anyone who wants to help Ukraine in its fight against Russia can donate crypto. To streamline this process, it launched the Aid for Ukraine website in March in collaboration with crypto exchange FTX, among others.

The country has already raised more than $100 million in bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH) and other crypto donations. It also launched a non-fungible tokens (NFT) collection for the purpose of raising money.

Recently, the Ukrainian newspaper The Kyiv Independent wrote about the donations. Deputy Minister Bornykov responded to the article with praise for the crypto community. He calls crypto “an essential tool for the defense of Ukraine.”

‘After every crypto winter comes a spring’

Furthermore, the deputy minister appears to be positive about the future of crypto. Despite the fact that we may be in a winter now, according to him there will eventually be a spring again:

“Despite the bear market, crypto has become an essential tool for the defense of Ukraine, providing flexibility and speed that have literally saved the lives of our soldiers. Every “crypto winter” leads to a “crypto spring”, but the industry is here to stay.”

The NFT Museum of Ukraine also raised $1.2 million in NFT sales itself. In this museum one can buy NFTs that have the latest events of the war as their theme. For example, the last work of art relates to the fact that, despite the invasion of Russia, the approval ratings of Putin have risen to 83%.

The country also receives a lot of non-crypto donations. Finland recently sold 1,889 bitcoins seized in criminal investigations. The proceeds were then donated to Ukraine’s war effort.
