Cruz goes to the Tigers, Herrera goes to the Bulls

The general management of the Tigres del Licey announced the acquisition of the infielder Oneil Cruz from the Toros del Este in exchange for outfielder Rosell Herrera.

Cruz is a 23-year-old shortstop and third baseman from Nizao who made his Major League debut last year with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Between Triple-A (six games) and Double-A (62 games) last summer he batted .310 with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs. He added 62 runs scored, 16 doubles, five triples and 19 stolen bases. With the Pirates he went 3-for-9 (.333) with one home run and three RBIs.

In the Dominican League he has belonged to the Lions of the Chosen, Gigantes del Cibao and Toros del Este, but he has only played with the first two. In 23 games he is batting .221 with seven runs scored, three doubles, two triples and six RBIs.

It is the second movement in consecutive days made by the general manager Audo Vicente. The hiring of left-handed starting pitcher Elniery García was announced on Thursday and remains in permanent session in search of strengthening the club’s payroll.
