Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new global record, becoming the all-time leading scorer in World Cup qualifying matches with 41 goals, even as his team played to a draw.
The veteran forward achieved this milestone by scoring two goals during Portugal’s recent match against Hungary. Portugal did not win the game against Hungary.
Ronaldo, often referred to as CR7, expressed immense pride in the achievement. He stated on social media that representing the national team “means a lot” to him.
“I am very proud to have reached this unique mark for Portugal,” Ronaldo wrote. He also thanked those who supported him.
He added a forward-looking note, anticipating November to “close out World Cup qualification.” His comments were shared on his official Instagram account.
