Cristiano Ronaldo confessed today to be "proud" after his new record achieved on Thursday in the match between Portugal and Liechtenstein, in which he became the player with the most caps for a national team.
In a publication shared on his Instagram social network profile, Cristiano recounted the "feelings so good" that he experienced during the match, in which, in addition to the record, he signed a double in the Portuguese victory by 4-0.
"Proud to be the most international player"wrote the crack Portuguese in the publication, which accumulates more than 8 million ‘likes’.
With Thursday’s game, Cristiano Ronaldo, 38, accumulated 197 participations with the senior team for his country, surpassing the 196 of Kuwaiti Bader Al Mutawa.
The clash against the Principality also meant the return of the former Real Madrid player to the Portuguese team after his tears at the end of the quarterfinal match at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where Portugal was eliminated by Morocco.
As he himself revealed this week, he considered his future as head of the national team, and his continuity was one of the great unknowns at the start of the cycle of the new coach, the Spanish Roberto MartÃnez.
"Such good feelings to play again and score for our team and in a stadium that is special to me"said.
The match was played at the Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, home of the club where he was formed, Sporting de Portugal, and his display in the opening match of the feud against Manchester United convinced the English club to sign him.
The Portuguese team captained by Cristiano is now leaving for Luxembourg, where on Sunday they will face the Grand Duchy team in another qualifying match for the 2024 Euro Cup.
