Cristian Javier says he does not feel pressure for a new agreement with the Houston Astros

Dominican pitcher Cristian Javier assured this Thursday that he does not feel any kind of pressure to do his job with the Houston Astros, after having arrived to a deal for five seasons and 64 million dollars.

"I don’t think there is any need for him to feel pressure after signing this contract. I’m going to keep doing the things that got me here"Javier expressed in a meeting with the press this Thursday in the team’s training camps in Florida, USA.

Javier, who thanked his family for their support, specified that he will continue to rely on his colleagues, whom he considers key in his development as a player.

"I will continue listening to my teammates, listening to my catcher, Martín Maldonado, and listening to the advice of the veteran guys."Javier explained.

Javier was recruited by the Astros in 2015 as an international agent. with a $10,000 signing bonus.

The pitcher, who was part of two combined no-hitters last season, including one in the World Series, has been tipped to lead the Astros’ starting rotation alongside Lance McCullers Jr. and fellow American Framber Valdez.

In the regular season last year, the 25-year-old right-hander, he pitched in 30 games with an 11-9 record with a 2.54 ERA.

Javier in the postseason had a 2-0 record, with a 0.74 ERA, after allowing one run and prescribing 16 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.


The Los Angeles Angels today announced Japanese star Shohei Ohtani as the starter for the first game of the Major League Baseball season, scheduled to begin on March 30.

Ohtani, who is scheduled to perform for Japan in the World Baseball Classic, he was the best overall pitcher and player of the American League West side last season. The 28-year-old right-hander made 28 appearances culminating with a 15-9 mark with a 2.33 ERA.

Ohtani, the only major league pitcher and offensive player, hit .273 with 34 home runs and 95 RBIs.
