Covid-19: Unlimited strike notification filed in two Marseille hospitals

At the request of two unions, this week a call for an indefinite strike was presented in two hospitals in Marseille to protest against the implementation of mandatory vaccination from next month.

The unions CGT and Sud Santé have notified an indefinite strike at the Assistance publique hospitals – Hôpitaux de Marseille (APHM) as of August 4 and Edouard Toulouse as of August 9. In total, more than 14,000 employees are involved in the two buildings.

By Thursday, August 5 at 11 a.m.

“The rate of absenteeism has been high since the approval of the law that obliges caregivers to be vaccinated: exits, exit notice, unpaid leave, sick leave …”, lamented Kader Benayed, departmental undersecretary of Sud Santé, in France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur (PACA).

Applauded a year ago for their front-line efforts to fight Covid-19, caregivers and doctors are currently subject to an obligation to vaccinate before September 15 to continue performing their duties.

A situation that tenses the health sector, already greatly affected by the lack of labor before the implementation of this restrictive measure.

As a reminder, the bill provides for the deprivation of salary to medical personnel in case of refusal in relation to vaccination against Covid-19 starting next month. A measure denounced by the unions, which demand the abandonment of this vaccination obligation and the sanctions related to this decision.
