Covid-19 cases decrease around the world

Cases and deaths from coronavirus continue to decline in almost all regions of the world, an indicator considered positive by the World Health Organization.

Last week, 4.5 million new cases of COVID-19 were reported, a decrease of 16% from the previous week, the UN health agency said on Wednesday. Deaths fell to 13,500, a decrease of 13%.

Cases fell in all regions and deaths fell in all but Southeast Asia, where they rose 15%, and the Western Pacific, where they rose 3%, the WHO said.

the approach of winter

The director of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that with the approach of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the possible emergence of new variants, there could be an increase in cases and deaths from COVID-19. He added that vaccination rates, even in rich countries, remain low, with only 30% of health workers and 20% of the elderly being immunized.

“These gaps present a risk to all of us,” the WHO chief declared. “Please, if you have not been vaccinated, get vaccinated, and get the booster if it has been recommended.”
