Country music star Drake White and his wife, Alex White, are facing an incredibly tough time. The couple recently shared the heartbreaking news that their baby girl passed away shortly after birth.
On Sunday, September 7th, Drake and Alex took to Instagram with a joint post. They explained that their daughter, Della Elizabeth White, was born too early at 29 weeks. She lived for just 20 minutes before peacefully passing away on Sunday, August 31st.
“On Sunday, August 31st, our precious daughter, Della Elizabeth White, departed peacefully with Jesus,” the couple wrote. They added that Della weighed 1.4 kg at birth. “We are so grateful for the sacred moments God gave us with her. The Lord has been so close to us during this difficult time. He has held us and kept us steady through it all. We are heartbroken and exhausted, but we know we will get through this tough time with the strength, peace, and joy only our heavenly Father can offer. May Della be in the arms of Jesus until we can see her again someday.”
Their post also included comforting words from the Bible, specifically from the Book of Psalms. These lines read: “I am dying of grief; sorrow shortens my years. Misery has drained my strength; I am wasting away inside. But I trust in you, O Lord, saying, ‘You are my God!’ My future is in your hands.”
The Instagram update from Drake, 41, and Alex showed a black and white photo. It pictured them in the hospital with their baby. Alex held their newborn in her arms, while Drake gently put his arm around his wife’s back.
Friends and fellow artists quickly offered their support and condolences. Singer Jessie James Decker wrote: “I am so sorry. I love you guys so much and am praying for you. No one should go through this kind of pain. I know your sweet girl will always be in your heart and watching over you🤍.”
Country singer Lauren Alaina added: “My heart hurts for y’all. Sending so much love and prayers.” Another country singer, RaeLynn, shared her thoughts: “I am so sorry. Praying for all three of you 😥 Jesus is close to the brokenhearted! Protect them, Jesus.” Terri Clark also sent her love, saying: “I am so incredibly sorry to hear this. My heart breaks for you. Sending you so much love. No one should go through the loss of a child.”
Drake and Alex are already parents to their 2-year-old son, William Hawk. Back in May, they joyfully announced they were expecting their second child. The couple shared that the baby was conceived in March through IVF, or in vitro fertilization.
“Sharing the news with our family and friends has been one of the best parts of the whole pregnancy,” Alex told People magazine at the time. “We love seeing them just as excited as we are to welcome a new baby to the world.”
Drake also mentioned their plans for their daughter’s name. “We are going to use family names and name her after Alex’s two grandmothers,” he explained. He added that they felt "so blessed and grateful to grow our family through the miracle of IVF.”
