A mother who lives in Calabasas, California (United States), had a big fright last Thursday. She was first alerted by the screams of her 5 year old child, who was playing in the garden of their property. Then, on the way out, she saw a puma who was face to face with her little boy, reports The Guardian.
The animal dragged the child “about 45 meters” said Patrick Foy, spokesperson for the California Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. The mother immediately threw herself on the feline and managed to push it away with her bare hands, punching it. The puma then let go of the little boy. Seriously injured, he was immediately taken to hospital by his parents.

The child was shot in the head and chest. He was in stable condition on Sunday. “The real hero of this story is his mother because she absolutely saved her son’s life,” said Patrick Foy. The veterinary authorities went there to try to find the 30 kg puma which had fled.
He was spotted by an officer not far from the house, crouching in a bush “ears back and hissing” added Patrick Foy. “Due to his behavior and the proximity of the attack and to protect public safety, he shot and killed him,” the authorities said in a statement. A DNA sample then confirmed that it was this puma that had attacked the little boy.
