Costco bets on the online channel after having a growth of 16.4%

There are several companies that are showing the economic results of 2021 where an increasingly increase of the online channel. Such is the case of the hypermarket chain, Costco.

The company has published the financial results obtained during 2021. It shows a 16.4% growth compared to the figures of the previous year. He has billed a total of $100.4 billioncompared to the 86,000 it generated in 2020. Raising this amount has led the company to position itself at the same level of pre-pandemic sales, as it suffered a decline in 2019.

This growth has been caused thanks to the sales generated in the black friday and the christmas companydates where people usually make their purchases.

Costco encourages ecommerce

The fact that the company has obtained good financial results has given rise to an even greater commitment to electronic commerce. A large part of the sales come from the online channel. Last year the sale of online products grew by 12.5% compared to the previous year, being the sectors of jewelry and household products the most successful ones.

However, not everything has been good results, it has also had to face a series of problemsas the logistics, caused by the supply crisis. This made the beginning of 2021 more complicated for the company.

Fast growth

Since its inception, Costco has had in mind to grow at exponential rates, and that is what it is doing. The company has communicated its intention to acquire 4 more freighters to be able to face the increase in demand, and thus be able to reduce the delivery time of its products.

In addition, the company has reported that will open 28 new stores this year and the opening of its fifth store in Spain. It will be located in Malaga and is scheduled to open in 2024. It has a total of 828 points of sale spread across the United States and Puerto Rico (572), Canada (105), Mexico (40), Japan (30), United Kingdom (29), South Korea (16), Taiwan (14), Australia (13), Spain (4), France (2), China (2) and Iceland (1). While, on the contrary, the company operates through the online channel in 7 countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Taiwan, Japan and Australia. However, this figure will increase, as Costco’s main focus right now is bet on electronic commerce.
